In 1906 the Hawaii Sugar Plantation Association brought the first 15 Sakadas from northern Luzon from the province of Ilocos Norte under three year contract to work on the sugar plantations of Hawaii.
The above picture of Fernanda Repolidon and Guillermo Revilla and their children left their home province of Sibonga, Cebu for departure from Manila Bay in 1918 for a 2 week journey aboard a freighter for the Hawaiian islands and settling in the Puunene Plantation system in the island of
Maui.
